This position is intended for individuals who have been nominated by a Dell Medical School Department Chair for a renewal of a Regular Faculty Appointment.

The Dell Medical School expects all regular faculty to be active scholars with vital contributions in research, curricula, publication, and care redesign and/or in other areas of innovation and service.  The terms and conditions of employment of all faculty members shall be embodied in a Memorandum of Appointment.  A separate document outlines requirements for affiliate faculty.

Regular faculty rank will be conferred based on the evaluation of specific criteria, including the magnitude and the quality of the contributions, and/or specific services rendered. Professorial titles will be followed by "of Department Name or Specialty".

Regular faculty will distinguish themselves with scholarly work in a track along the criteria described be the medical school in either educational leadership, clinical expertise and innovation or investigation and inquiry.  Regular faculty are expected to continuously advance scholarship in their areas of expertise, while expectations for scholarship of affiliate faculty are less rigorous. Scholarship is defined as the creation and dissemination of new knowledge.  Regular faculty will generally devote significant effort to scholarship for which they are accountable to Dell Medical School.


Regular faculty must align with the Dell Medical School mission by demonstrating commitment to:

  • Educating future health care leaders;
  • Caring for all patients, regardless of payor status;
  • Delivering evidence-based, value-focused care;
  • Measuring outcomes and costs, and using that information to improve value;
  • Coordinating care across providers and site of service to build a model healthy community; and 
  • Advancing innovation from discovery to outcomes.

The university will conduct a criminal background check (including a sex offender registration check) on candidates applying for a regular faculty position. Any such background check will be conducted in compliance with federal and state laws and UT System and UT Austin policies.
