The College of Liberal Arts is one of nine colleges within Rochester Institute of Technology.  The College has more than 150 faculty members in 12 departments in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts.  The College currently offers 12 undergraduate degree programs and 5 Master's degree programs serving over 800 students.  The Department of Performing Arts & Visual Culture comprises 11 full-time faculty members who strongly value both research and teaching.  The Department currently offers a minor and immersion in the theater arts, music and technology and a BA in Museum Studies. In keeping with the mission of a liberal arts education future plans for theater include an expansion into other parts of the department, such as museum studies as well as other colleges within the greater RIT community.

Detailed Job Description:
The Department of Performing Arts & Visual Culture at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a position at the Senior Lecturer level in Theater Studies to begin late August 2017.  We are looking for a teacher/scholar/practitioner who can support our Theater Studies minor and immersion, including student advising, curriculum development, teaching courses in theater history, direction, acting, courses in the candidate's area of specialization, and other courses as needed by the department.  Due to the more senior level nature of this position, a successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a proven record of academic experience. The teaching load is 8 classes per year.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA, MFA or Ph.D. in Theater Studies, completed prior to date of hire
  • Significant prior teaching experience at the college level
  • Research interests in theater history and practice, pedagogy and new trends
  • College level directing experience
  • Ability to contribute to RIT's offerings in Theater and the Department of Performing Arts & Visual Culture
  • A willingness to collaborate with the theater programs across the institute including NTID (National Technical Institute for the Deaf) and acting for media classes at CIAS (College of Imaging Arts & Sciences)
  • Experience in disciplinary or interdisciplinary research and teaching collaborations
  • Ability to contribute to RIT's commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence
