Sr. Research Data Manager
The Epidemiology Department is seeking a Senior Research Data Manager who will be responsible for management of a complex, multi-center longitudinal study of HIV. The primary activities of this position are overseeing data staff operations, as well as the systems for data quality assurance, management of research data, creation of new summary variables, creation of datasets for investigators, creation of data tables for reports and papers.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

The Sr Research Data Manager will lead research data collection and management activities as part of a data coordinating center for a study of HIV. Primary responsibilities are as follows:
  • Oversee data cleaning, including identifying potential problems with study data and collaborating with study sites to resolve issues encountered
  • Lead the creation of summary variables and delivery of cleaned study data to study sites
  • Manage research data staff
  • Assign data and specimen requests and delivery of these products to investigators
  • Act as primary contact for data management staff at all sites for data issues
  • Contribute advanced analysis and programming skills
  • Lead data management staff meetings and provide updates on status of projects


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline
  • 5 years related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree preferred


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Mastery of SAS required
  • R and STATA programming proficiency desirable
  • Good problem-solving skills, including organizing and investigating possible solutions and presenting them to the team for discussion
  • Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of results
  • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with investigators and a "team-oriented" approach with other staff members and investigators
  • Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency
  • Experience performing longitudinal data analysis and survival analysis

Starting Salary Range: $53,020 - $72,930 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
