Job Description

Position Summary

U.S. Tax Compliance - Assistance with all U.S. Corporate entities. Research and draft memos on a variety of U.S. tax issues. Interface with tax authorities on and preparation of audit responses.

Tax Reporting - Detail review of corporate entities quarterly tax provisions. Assist with tax note disclosure and prepare U.S. true-up analysis.

Other Tax Initiatives - Responsible for monitoring state nexus and reporting obligations. Assist with tax reporting and compliance requirements as part of the automation of U.S. tax processes. Work closely with the regional accounting teams to gather supporting information, assisting them to better understand the tax implications of the information.

Your Key Deliverables

U.S. Tax Compliance - Review the annual U.S. tax compliance process which includes but not limited to:

  • Review tax working papers, tax analyses and relevant information for partnership and corporate income tax returns

  • Manage the timely preparation and filing of the corporate/partnership tax returns and other required filings with support of with external advisors

  • Review state and local tax filings for disregarded entities and other tax forms

  • Manage quarterly tax installment calculations and coordinate payments to tax authorities

  • Refine and improve data collection processes supporting tax returns and tax provision calculations

  • Manage the preparation and maintenance of tax basis information

  • Research and prepare technical memos in support of U.S. tax technical positions taken in the financial statements and statutory filings

  • Review responses to notices received from tax authorities to resolve any disputed issues

U.S. Tax Reporting - Review the of U.S. tax provisions and assist with the preparation of tax disclosures for external financial statement purposes:

  • Review quarterly and annual tax accounting provisions under U.S. GAAP and assist in the tax reporting to our parent company under IFRS

  • Maintain monthly cash tax projections for forecasting/treasury needs

  • Prepare and record journal entries in the financial system for all tax transactions as well as monthly reconciliation of entity tax balances

  • Ensure compliance with the organization's internal controls in relation to tax and relevant accounting and tax policies

U.S. Tax Planning and Other Initiatives:

  • Support responses to federal and state income tax audits as required

  • Assist in the implementation of process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency in tax processes

  • Monitor applicable tax legislation to proactively assess and determine the impact of any proposals to the Company

  • Provide tax technical support and guidance to our internal stakeholders

  • Assist with state compliance inquiries, responses and ensuring timely responses.

  • Assist with US tax installment calculations for corporate entities including coordination with treasury team to ensure timely payments.

  • Coordination with tax advisors to manage compliance filing and deadlines.

  • Manage information return filing processes.

Must Haves

  • Bachelors Degree

  • U.S. CPA designation

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years' tax experience in U.S. corporate/partnership income tax in a public accounting firm, or publicly traded company

  • Strong ability to research tax regulations and communicate findings to various levels of management

  • Experience with partnership/corporate/disregarded entity tax compliance and tax accounting process

  • Knowledge of accounting standards relating to accounting for income taxes under US GAAP and IFRS

  • Experience in dealing with tax authorities and financial statement auditors

  • Proven ability to think big picture, identify opportunities for improvement, and optimize workflows

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straight forward manner

  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management as well as external parties

  • Great team player with the ability to anticipate and proactively resolve issues

  • Detail oriented, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Strong working knowledge of computerized accounting systems, Thompson Reuters OneSource/GoSystem U.S. tax compliance software, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
