Job Description Summary
The Executive Communications Manager is an individual contributor who is responsible for the creation and execution of a diverse portfolio of communications for the BCBSA CEO and other senior leaders for external, internal and BCBS member company audiences. These communications are central to the mission and vision of the Blues System, showcasing the Blues' efforts to drive health equity, advance affordable health care and promote well-being in communities across the country. Recent examples include messaging about BCBSA's commitment to reduce maternal health disparities by 50% in 5 years, develop low cost generic insulin in partnership with CivicaRx, eliminate surprise medical bills and address stark racial disparities in diagnosis and treatment of major depression. This role will work closely with the Executive Director of Stakeholder Communications (hiring manager) to bring excellent reporting and writing techniques to create compelling, relevant and timely content for a variety of communications, including speeches and presentations, op-eds, blog posts, email messages, video scripts, newsletters and website content. This position is part of an integrated communications team that works collectively to elevate the voice and brand of the Blues for the 115 million members we serve-and all Americans.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Researching and writing in the voice of CEO and senior executives to bring impactful, authentic messages to life for all audiences. Communications build corporate culture and drive thought leadership and include speeches, presentations, blog posts, op-eds, talking points, video scripts, employee emails and board communications Collaborating with communications team members, subject matter experts across the Association and creative design/storytelling team members to craft channel- and audience-appropriate messaging and engaging complimentary visuals and ensure alignment of messages and process Working closely with BCBSA CEO and senior leaders to originate, iterate, review and prep materials for presentations Maintaining CEO communications calendar in collaboration with campaign strategy team Supporting the writing, editing and proofreading of additional strategic communications deliverables as needed
Required Education, Certifications and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, communications, social science, public relations or related field Five years communications/speechwriter experience in a corporate or non-profit setting, including work directly with CEO and/or senior leaders Demonstratedability to identify, research, write, produce and coordinate clear, vivid text for speeches, op-eds, talking points, presentations, essays, articles, video scripts, website copy, correspondence and other projects for CEO and/or senior executives Competence in crafting a script that is personally and professionally representative of the speaker and tailored to the specific audience Experience in successfully generating creative concepts for visual/multimedia deliverables Exceptional knowledge of AP style and grammar Superior written and verbal communication skills including excellent writing, proofreading and editing abilities and command of grammar/punctuation, style and format Demonstrated skill in strategy, planning and execution of organizational narrative Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and sustain relationships at all levels of the organization, with a consistent focus on meeting the expectations of internal customers/clients
Preferred Education, Certifications and Experience
Master's Degree in a related field Business strategy and/or healthcare experience Journalism/media experience Strong project management skills, process and organizational focus, and attention to detail
