The Office of Development advances the teaching, research, and public service of the School of Veterinary Medicine by increasing the amount of private financial support available to the School and its faculty to continue building on this excellence. The development team's primary fundraising focus is the Veterinary Medical Center, and this position is expected to raise gift dollar amounts as established at each fundraiser classification.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual prospects capable of making major gifts of $50K+.; developing and implementing annual and long-range fundraising goals, and setting objectives and strategies to maximize private support for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and for the university at large.

The Associate Director of Development identifies new donor prospects by researching background information on potential donors. Develops materials and, marketing plans, and organizes related programs/events; cultivates, stewards, and solicits donor prospects.

Using advanced fundraising concepts, the Associate Director of Development plans, organizes, and directs fundraising campaigns which include multiple components. Results have major impact on overall program goals and assignments and are typically at the "major gifts" level, including managing a portfolio of donors capable of giving $50K or more.

The Associate Director of Development is highly skilled at building relationships and will solicit philanthropic support through personal visits to alumni, parents, grateful clients, and friends of UC Davis with a strategic emphasis on selected geographic regions with high concentrations of potential supporters. A dedicated fundraiser, the Associate Director of Development is required, at minimum, to secure 120 face-to-face donor visits per year, with a minimum of supervision.

As a communications expert, the incumbent is an excellent listener with exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative work style. As such, the incumbent possesses the skills and ability to draft correspondence, utilize social media, make phone calls and engages all communication channels in order to personally conduct proactive outreach to prospects. Highly organized, the incumbent, utilizing the UC Davis Prospect Management services and systems, will work to identify potential new donor prospects who will then be personally visited and either qualified face-to-face for continued cultivation, or disqualified as a major gift prospect.

Success as a fundraiser at UC Davis requires the incumbent to also be a collaborative team player who adheres to the university's Principles of Community and complies with UC Davis Development policies. The Associate Director of Development is a part of the larger development organization and will report to an experienced and dedicated team manager who provides support, training and guidance. Salary Range

$ 6,608.33 - $ 14,808.33/mo.

Departmental Salary Budget is $7,083.33 - $7,916.67/Mo., commensurate with experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work occasional evenings and weekends to attend fundraising and program events and to meet operational needs as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Valid California Driver's license and ability to travel in and out of California.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Advanced knowledge and experience in all aspects of fundraising, donor relations and concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience involving managing a major gift portfolio and securing major gifts of $50K or more; or equivalent transferrable professional experience including strategic relationship development and portfolio management, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience working in a metrics fundraising environment to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives; including demonstrated knowledge of proven identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic relationships with individual donors and prospective donors, foundations, and other philanthropic organizations and researching, building and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects with a goal of raising philanthropic support.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and meticulous attention to detail, the ability to set, negotiate, and meet priorities and produce high-quality work under multiple deadlines and priorities. Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution.
  • Proven ability to interface effectively with prospects, donors, volunteer leaders and faculty or other organizational leaders. Strong professional ethics, discretion and judgement.

Preferred:

  • Thorough working knowledge of the campus, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Strong professional ethics, discretion and judgement.
  • Demonstrated experience/success in working on employee, faculty or staff giving.
  • Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying diversity, equity and inclusion to one's work. A profound belief in the value of a diverse and safe workforce and a commitment to achieve this goal through collaboration and team building, working cooperatively with a diverse group of department and campus constituencies.
