Campus Safety Officer

Roanoke College's Campus Safety Officers provide for the safety and security of Roanoke College students, faculty, and staff. Understanding, interpreting, and enforcement of policies and law is critical to support the mission of the college and provide for a secure campus environment. Our officers are required to maintain required certifications by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) that include armed Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP) and Campus Security Officer (CSO), along with CPR/AED certification.

Successful candidates will have a high school diploma with several years of experience and training in campus/corporate security or law enforcement and/or equivalent. Completion of a basic law enforcement academy strongly preferred. Good communication and de-escalation skills a must, as well as the ability to remain calm in stressful situations and actively work to resolve the issue. Ability to provide compassion and education to young adults is desired. Familiarity with a community policing model a plus. Must pass a background investigation and physical and psychological exam with drug screen, be bondable, and possess valid driver's license and U.S. Citizenship.

Officers are scheduled for four 10-hour shifts per week. Position requires shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Position is eligible for full college benefits, with starting pay commensurate with experience and training.
