Department Purpose

Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Catering and Concession General Manager, the Catering and Concessions Service Lead is responsible for assisting in daily function oversight of the multi-faceted catering and concessions operation. This position is responsible for providing and leading event operation support, excellent customer service, cashiering service standards, and providing basic culinary support to the Catering and Concessions operation. This position would additionally support other dining units in need of service including both Residential and Retail units. The Catering and Concessions Service Lead will support the operation to ensure department service standards are met and business goals are attained. Provide mentorship to the catering service and culinary team and monitor adherence to customer service standards, and cash handling compliance. This position will be expected to uphold the highest level of confidentiality as they will serve and lead private events. Must be willing and able to drive all vehicles.

Recruitment Period one month: Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift boxes and files weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Use computer equipment for extended periods of time (6-8 hours per day).
  • Position requires extensive walking tours of buildings, climbing stairs, frequent daily bending, stooping, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, and lifting material and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work for extended periods of time in an environment of wide temperature variations.
  • Position requires entering and exiting large trucks with heightened or raised seating platforms. Position requires loading and unloading of product and equipment using loading docks and delivery vehicles (including large trucks) with varying heights and angles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience in leading and serving in a high-volume catering, restaurant, or dining service-related field.
  • Experience in leading food preparation
  • Experience managing shifting daily priorities and objectives.
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying backgrounds and perspectives to resolve problems.
  • Experience using writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Preferred License/Certification:

  • Food safety certified.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience using computerized systems, including food production/procurement systems, and time-keeping programs.
  • Experience in PCI & managing cash handling policies and procedures.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of related Federal, State, Local, and UC regulations.
