Primary Responsibilities



  • Accountable for all operational accounting functions including Revenue.
  • Manages the monthly accounting close process, which includes reviewing monthly journal entries, regulatory reporting, accrual to actual account reconciliations
  • Responsible for the timely preparation of the AR aging, and presentation of it weekly to Upper Management.
  • Analyzes margin account variances, key operating statistics, price/volume variances and operating results monthly.
  • Answers and resolves internal and external customer inquiries, including audit inquiries
  • Assist in the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Ensures transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies and controls.
  • Manage and make adjustments to inventory.
  • Manage and supervise accounting staff; and actively participates in the development and coaching of staff members to provide appropriate advancement opportunities
  • Review and enforce internal controls to protect company assets.
  • Interpret and apply accounting pronouncements and be responsible for the accounting for certain entities of the owner include accounts receivable, accounts payable, journal entries, etc.
  • Execute a Monthly Close of the General Ledger for the owner and its related entities
  • Review journal entries - including recurring entries - for Month End Close.
  • Maintain well-documented work papers for journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • As part of the reconciliation process, review the reasonableness of balance sheet and income statement accounts to determine that all necessary entries are recorded.
  • Analyze, generate, and process intercompany entries needed to adjust or reallocate expenses between business units.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts in a timely fashion including intercompany balances; dispose of reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Analyze monthly and year-end financial data to ensure that it is recorded accurately.
  • Develop, review, and ensure distribution of standard, recurring monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reports to business managers.
  • Responsible for reviewing fixed asset additions, disposals, depreciation, monthly reporting.
  • Compare the actual results to the budgeted results and provide variance explanations monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Qualifications



  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master of Accountancy or MBP preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • NetSuite experienced preferred.
  • Minimum ten or more years related business experience and five years of supervisory experience required; Landscaping industry experience preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and ability to apply those principles to new and existing transactions.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of difficult accounting concepts and procedures and the ability to apply to daily activities.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to motivate team to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects required.
  • Advanced analytical skills required.
  • Requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast paced and growth-oriented environment.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than indicated here.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
