Job Description



MRM is seeking a standout VP, Strategy Director to join our team in NYC. They will help lead a portfolio of brands that earn a meaningful role in people's lives.

The Responsibilities

Talent will be a leader on client work, thought & process leadership, and team/community:

CLIENT WORK



  • Architecting brand, marketing and communications across a portfolio of brands:

    • Mining culture, consumer, category, company, and communications/connections landscape
    • Determining truths and insights
    • Defining and activating brand positioning and messaging


  • Activating those brands to create meaningful relationships with audiences, including B2C and B2B

    • Empathetically understanding relationships, including moments and drivers & barriers
    • Designing Total Human Experiences, including brand, content, social, CRM, media across the end-to-end ecosystem (i.e., paid, owned, earned, digital and physical)
    • Partnering across disciplines (e.g., Data, Tech, Media), across IPG agencies, and with client to execute
    • Leading consumer research and creative testing


  • Lead connections strategy and communications design

    • Develop detailed customer journeys that outline jobs to be done, barriers, moments that matter, and needs that span the emotional, functional, and cultural
    • Developing tactical connections briefs that link our "big campaign ideas" and business objectives to key messages, RTBs, channels


  • Inspiring compelling creative in partnership with our Creative teams

    • Informing and inspiring creative platforms
    • Developing creative briefs
    • Designing and conducting research and analysis, from primary to secondary, qualitative to quantitative.
    • Identifying insights and ideas with both logic and magic
    • Partnering with Creative teams during creative development


  • Partnering with Business and Strategic Leadership to...

    • Represent the agency with senior clients
    • Lead the account in a strategic manner, acting as trusted strategic advisor
    • Proactively identify the key problems to be solved, key opportunities to be captured, and key goals to be delivered
    • Recommend and lead new workstreams as appropriate


  • Storytelling in ways that make the complex simple and the simple compelling
  • Facilitating alignment across agency disciplines (e.g., Business Leadership, Creative, Technology, Data, Media, UX), network partners, and clients
  • Partnering with and/or managing and mentoring other Strategists on the business



THOUGHT & PROCESS



  • Take the strategy on your account and inform MRM's overarching approaches to strategy
  • Nurture partnerships with other disciplines, e.g., Creative, Tech, Data
  • Represent Strategy at MRM, within McCann Worldgroup, within IPG and where appropriate, in industry

The Requirements



  • 10+ years directly related Strategy experience
  • Experienced integrated Strategy leader, with brand planning + digital strategy expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to create work that drives client business/effectiveness; wins creative awards; and shapes culture
  • Experience with research design (e.g. survey design, sampling, focus groups, creative testing stimulus and analysis) a plus
  • Social/digital strategy experience a plus
  • Omnichannel ecosystem development experience across paid, owned, earned; brand, content, social, experience, etc.; ability to work with Media partners, Data partners, etc. to understand audience behaviors, segments, personas, etc.; comfort with emerging tech to help bring Creative to life
  • Talent at working with Creative partners
  • Understanding of performance and ability to work with Data & Analytics
  • Exceptional communication skills - on the page, in presentation; internally and with clients/external stakeholders. Communicate clearly and proactively
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area
