Teaching Assistant
The Summer at Hopkins Pre-College Program () invites applications for in-person and online Summer Teaching Assistant positions:

  • Introduction to Laboratory Research (in-person)
  • Anatomy, Physiology & Disease (online and in-person)
  • Medical School Intensive (online and in-person)
  • Introduction to Surgery (online and in-person)
  • Neurobiology: Cellular & Systems (online)
  • Neuroscience and Human Behavior (online)


Summer at Hopkins Pre-College courses are offered to academically gifted high school students for 1-credit.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) help support course objectives and student engagement aligning with the program's educational mission. Summer at Hopkins partners with Instructors and TAs to provide students innovative and engaging courses.

Each session is two weeks in duration and the course can be offered in multiple sessions.

Multiple positions are available.

Session Dates:
  • Session One:
    • June 27, 2022- July 8, 2022
  • Session Two:
    • July 11, 2022- July 22, 2022
  • Session Three:
    • July 25, 2022- August 5, 2022


In-Person Course Time:
  • 9:30 AM-4:00 PM EDT


Online Course Time:
  • Course Offerings will be delivered asynchronously
  • All required course content has been developed


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Attends and supports all classroom, labs, course events, and activities
  • Delivers lectures when needed
  • Evaluates student performance, including assignments, papers, and exams
  • Meets with the course instructor and assists in determining grading criteria
  • Tracks and records individual and overall course grades in multiple formats.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in a related field is required. Master's Degree preferred
  • At least one year of related experience working with college students is required, such as Biology teaching/tutoring experience


* Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be student oriented and driven
  • Ability to learn and utilize various technologies (e.g., Teams, Zoom, Blackboard, the Students Information System, etc.) as needed


Compensation:
  • Teaching Assistant Stipend: $ 1,550 (per session)


Additional Information:
  • To meet student demand, we have multiple TA positions available for most programs
  • Course sections that reach their enrollment caps of 25 will be eligible for a TA
  • TA positions are not eligible for benefits
  • Candidates for these positions will be subject to a pre-employment background check and fingerprinted per policies related to working with minors
  • All employees participating in Summer at Hopkins Pre-College programs must enroll and participate in mandatory online training in Child Abuse Prevention: "Training on the Safety of Children in University Programs"
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the US and must remain eligible through the duration of the program

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
