Job Description

  • Providing technical service on matters relating to taconite mining operations.
  • Developing plans that achieve and maintain predictable, stable levels of operating performance.
  • Managing the allocation of resources to sustain functional excellence including participation in project definition and delivery conducting design for support infrastructure and activities, including roads, ramps, dumps, and developing comprehensive de-watering plans or other projects.
  • Employing management skills to direct and coordinate the efforts of employees assigned to survey crews and mine operations.
  • Applying education/technical knowledge and utilizing problem solving skills and continuous improvement knowledge in the processing of iron ore while working closely with members of management and related departments to ensure an efficient productive facility. This position is also responsible for administering the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
  • Develop short range plans, maps, and schedules for Tailings Storage Facility construction activities and future deposition.
  • Document and organize construction, reclamation, and depositional progress at Tailings Storage Facility.
  • Assist in development of long range tailings depositional plans.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • The position also requires 3-5 years of applicable work experience. However, candidates with equivalent experience, relevant training or education are encouraged to apply.
  • Level and salary will be based on experience.
  • All successful candidates are subject to background checks, pre-employment physical examinations and drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred Skills:
  • The preferred candidate will be knowledgeable in taconite mining and have a strong geological/mineralogy background and demonstrated knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, GPS surveying instruments, mine planning software, truck dispatch software, mine mapping, and be knowledgeable in taconite mining, concentrating, and pelletizing operations as well as have a background in mining or a related industrial field.
  • Previous experience in geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and tailings management or the willingness to learn those skills.
  • In addition, the successful candidate must be independent with the ability to make sound operating and mechanical decisions with little input from other managers.
