Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences ( CAS) at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position for academic year 2022-2023 with a specialty in General and Organic Chemistry. This is a lecturer appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and review. We are a congenial, collaborative program, housed on Loyola's beautiful lakeside campus. This search is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding faculty members who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). Of special interest are candidates who can further the University's efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The position involves instructing sections of lecture and laboratory courses with general and organic chemistry content across both semesters of the academic year. We are developing a new curriculum in which topics traditionally taught in general and organic chemistry will be integrated across the introductory courses.
Qualifications
The candidate must hold a Doctoral Degree in chemistry or a closely related field. Candidates for the position must demonstrate the potential for distinguished teaching and student mentorship or possess a record of such accomplishments. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially regarding socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Candidates must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with experience teaching chemistry for students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry and biology, and others who aspire to careers in the health sciences will be preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. In addition, candidates also must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
