Internet Software and Services is responsible for delivering cutting edge applications like the App Store, Apple Music and iCloud. Our team protects these Apple services and customers from fraud and abuse through a combination of threat modeling, data analysis, and machine learning. We are seeking a software engineer with a drive to build and support systems that turn the huge amounts of data generated by these services and applications into feature improvements that enhance customer experience. We are currently looking to fill this role in one of the following locations: Austin, Texas, United States (preferred) Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (preferred) Barcelona, Spain Paris, France Other locations with existing Apple offices Key Qualifications Must Have: 2+ years software development experience in industry, with source code management tools like git Established programming skills in Scala, Java, Python, or similar language Ability to communicate software designs to others Excellent social, written, and verbal communication skills Curiosity, passion for learning, high personal integrity, and a dedication to improving the Apple customer experience Experience with end-to-end ownership of projects (may include academic projects) and confidence to make key decisions independently Preferred: Experience developing software that runs on cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, or similar) Familiarity with Spark, Hive, Hadoop, and SQL Experience working on distributed systems Experience collaborating with other engineering and non-engineering teams Working knowledge of machine learning algorithms including classifiers, clustering algorithms, or anomaly detection Description Our Trust and Safety Team has broad responsibilities to ensure the trust and safety of Apple services through a combination of threat modeling, data-driven policy, and machine learning. We are seeking a software engineer who can help us develop and deploy highly scalable systems that are used by hundreds of millions of users every day across the globe. We collaborate with other engineers, feature teams, and business partners across a wide range of groups within Apple to identify problems, define solutions, execute plans, measure results and communicate these results to our partners. We have end-to-end responsibility for our solutions to these problems, from initial investigation, to solution proposal, to implementation, to long-term maintenance. We encourage our team to stay abreast of current research by attending conferences. We cultivate a collaborative work environment, but allow solution autonomy on projects. Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include: Collaborating with stakeholders across Apple to arrive at software design decisions that impact both internal and customer-facing features. Scoping software application requirements for new projects. Working alongside Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Platform Engineers to improve our machine learning platforms and decisioning systems. Education & Experience BS Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, a degree in a related field or relevant work experience.
