Job Description

SVB Private serves the needs of founders, investors and executives, and the related entities they control within the innovation economy. SVB Private's target market includes corporate leaders, company founders, senior members of private equity or venture capital firms and top market influencers at established firms within SVB's commercial market footprint. SVB is uniquely positioned with access to the key players in the industry. We seek to help streamline their lives with a strong product set, intense knowledge of their industries, capable & caring bankers and a high level of customer service.

The candidate will play a critical role in the success of the Private Banking Team. The ideal candidate will take ownership of their assigned tasks while striving to go beyond their basic job responsibilities for the benefit of the entire SVB platform/shareholders/clients.

  • Apply knowledge of SVB's mortgage products, practices and tools while providing credit underwriting support to the Mortgage Team
  • Underwrite credit proposals and analyze personal financial statements, tax returns and credit reports with a high appreciation for attention to detail.
  • Develop knowledge that will allow effective basic underwriting skills for high-net-worth individuals who are synergistic to our business model
  • Identify usual risks and mitigate common factors which could impact the Applicant's loan repayment ability. Utilize key loan underwriting tools and techniques to access Applicants' eligibility
  • Understand the necessity and value of accuracy and regulatory compliance. Accurately gauge the impact and cost of errors, omissions, and oversights. Utilize specific approaches and tools for checking and cross-checking outputs. Learn from mistakes and apply lessons learned
  • Take personal ownership of assignments and activities, pro-actively communicating decisions and results to internal partners. Deliver quality work and solutions within accepted service level agreement / deadlines
  • Value the importance of teamwork with ability to work cooperatively towards shared goals. Actively participate in team meetings by sharing information, knowledge, and experiences openly. Demonstrate open, friendly, accepting, and supportive behaviors with peers and colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8+ years work experience in a mortgage finance role.
  • Preference for experience in a private banking environment including underwriting to NHW individuals and residential mortgages
  • Basic credit analysis, accounting, math and comprehension of macroeconomic principals
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Desire to be an ongoing contributing asset to our clients and shareholders
