Under general supervision, serve as the financial analyst, compliance officer and resource to the CAO and Chair. Conduct financial analysis and effort reporting and participate in the financial planning for a wide variety of federal grants. Gather, manage and analyze financial data from a variety of revenue streams, including state general funds, state and federal grants, private grants, gifts, and other funding sources. Monitor and maintain departmental, research and project accounts associated with the annual operating budget. Departmental compliance expert in the University policy and procedure for all departmental business processes. Principal trainer and resource for business office staff on financial procedures and policy. Assist the CAO in long-range financial planning and forecasting. Responsible for pre- and post- award processes, budget preparation, analysis, and forecasting, and for control of complex budgets. Serve as back-up to the MSO in their absence. Co-supervise student assistant help. Assist department by backing up co-workers and helping with projects as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work at a computer for extended periods of time. Lift/move boxes of financial documents for storage purposes weighing up to 30 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional overtime to meet operations or grant deadlines, usually at short notice.
  • Restricted vacations during fiscal close and grant deadlines; as well as during the first two weeks and last two weeks of the quarters.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting and strategic planning to analyze and compile financial data and reports.
  • Experience in budget preparation based on narrative methodological research plans and designs, analysis, and forecasting with skill to control complex budgets.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with Dean's Offices, campus departments, Principal Investigators, CAO, staff, and students to ensure compliance with UCD policy and procedures.
  • Organizational skills to work with changing priorities and demanding workload to independently manage and monitor multiple accounts simultaneously and to meet multiple and variable priorities and deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems.
  • Analytical skills to proficiently assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many internal parties in a large organizational structure.

Preferred:

  • Experience with UC Davis accounting, purchasing, entertainment, travel, and business management practices.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis hiring/employment practices within an academic department.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and procedures in an academic environment.
