Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Director, Compensation and Benefits with experience in benefits administration and/or total rewards programs to join our growing team!

Role Summary:

The Director, Compensation and Benefits role is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of health and welfare and retirement plans, corporate compensation plans, policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:



  • Benefits Administration. Managing and administering employee health and welfare, severance and retirement plans such as medical, dental, life and disability plans, 401(k), pension and ESOP.
  • Compensation Administration. Managing and administering employee compensation programs such as Executive Compensation Plans, Annual Merit process, Annual Incentive Compensation Plan (AICP), Long Term Incentive Plan (LTIP), Unit Deferral Incentive Plan (UDIP), and Director Compensation.
  • Expat Program Management. Managing and administering expat programs.
  • Plan Assessment and Evaluation. Planning, developing, and/or participating in area and industry surveys, evaluating and comparing existing company compensation and benefits and developing specifications for new plans or modify existing plans to maintain company's competitive position in labor market.
  • Plan Changes, Updates and Communication. Maintaining and recommending updates to company policies relating to compensation and benefit plans, installing approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plans to the organization. Preparing and executing compensation and benefit documentation such as plan documents and amendments, summary plan descriptions and benefit plan policies.
  • Ensuring company compliance with federal, state and local laws, supervising preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies and reviewing and analyzing changes to state and federal laws pertaining to compensation and benefits, and reports necessary or suggested changes to management.
  • Benefits and Compensation Issue Resolution. Working with the administrators/trustees of our compensation and benefit plans to address issues and concerns that arise in managing the plans including working with auditors and legal counsel to affect compliance activities and modifications.
  • And other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline required.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of HR experience required along with significant experience in a multi-state/multi-site environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in benefits administration and/or total rewards programs required.
  • Candidate should possess strong knowledge of HRIS systems.
  • Candidate must possess strong knowledge of compensation and benefit offerings and programs.



Certificates & Licenses:



  • PHR or SPHR a plus.



Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:



  • Incumbent must possess strong knowledge of employment and benefits laws and regulations, both federal and state (for states that Buckeye Partners operates in).
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • In order to be successful in this position, one must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Very strong organization skills are essential as well as highly established analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • One must have excellent presentation skills and be able to appropriately and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization including executives.
  • In this position, it is critical for the incumbent to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • One should have strong leadership skills with a personal commitment to integrity, teamwork, achievement of departmental and business results and a strong "customer" (i.e., employee) focus.
