Sr. Medical Coder plays a key role in partnering with Benefit Products, Clinical and Operations subject matter experts to ensure use and adoption of appropriate coding standards through the development, implementation, and administration of the Surest, a UnitedHealthcare Company, (formerly Bind) benefit coverage specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Participate in development and maintenance of code sets across Surest capabilities
  • Create and maintain coverage specifications for Surest (formerly Bind) plan designs. Partner with Benefit Products, Clinical and Operations to develop and maintain program/solution documentation and specifications
  • Serve as a resource regarding coding questions and interpretation of standards; provide support on use of codes and changes to coding standards as needed
  • Review Surest benefit plan for accuracy and completeness of codes, ensuring all codes are current and active. Conduct regular review of benefit plan codes to maintain compliance with standards
  • Document best practices and new processes focused on medical coding as it relates to coverage design

Required Qualification:



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of coding experience
  • Medical Coding Certificate; CPC by AAPC or AHIMA license
  • 3+ years business/operations experience in a health plan environment and familiarity with commercial plan design
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience assisting in the plan build/plan configuration of claim adjudication platform
  • Experience in the application of medical and reimbursement policies within the claims adjudication process
  • Working knowledge of coding within benefit and claim adjudication
  • Familiarity with commercial health plan design
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Analytical skills, demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Clear, concise, engaging and effective written and oral communication
  • Willingness and ability to be both an individual contributor and a team player

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The hourly range for Colorado residents is $26.15 to $46.63. The hourly range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $28.85 to $51.30. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
