Summary

The Risk Analyst functions as the technical support across the Risk Management Business Unit's departments consisting of Energy Commodity and Credit Risk, Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance Risk. The Risk Analyst performs analytics, research, and risk modeling in support of NYPA's Risk Management functions. The Risk Analyst provides on-going risk identification, definition, assessment, and analysis associated with NYPA's risk mitigation plan and strategic initiatives. #LI-VB1

Responsibilities
  • Perform a full spectrum of analyses to define and assess complex and emergent risks associated with NYPA's business practices and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with risk owners to perform a full range of analyses of risks to target root causes in support of NYPA's risk mitigation plans.
  • Develop and maintain complex/customized risk reports and risk dashboards that are strategically targeted for specific business units of the organization.
  • Develop risk management process flows and detailed evaluations and provide assistance to other NYPA business units in developing risk mitigation plans, processes and procedures.
  • Provide a detailed review of documented business processes to identify, measure, and manage risks, in support of NYPA's risk mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze, write and present complex and concise risk reports and presentations containing strategic recommendations and solutions.
  • Develop and implement enhancements of NYPA's Risk Management capabilities via the evolution of risk programs, processes and analysis tools. Communicate the enhancements and initiatives throughout NYPA.
  • Develop and implement risk training materials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Established knowledge of the principles of Economics, Finance, Accounting, derivatives, quantitative and statistical analysis methods and tools and general engineering concepts.
  • Thorough understanding of various types of risk drivers, including market, commodity, operational, credit and insurance.
  • Thorough understanding of the NYPA business model, including the utility structure in New York and the financial, bond and insurance markets.
  • Ability to perform the statistical analysis of inherent risks and to assess strategies and pricing to ensure financial integrity.
  • Strong ability to perform probabilistic analyses to aid in the development of pricing models, asset evaluation and position assessment.
  • Thorough understanding of NYPA's Risk management policies, budget processes, investment practices, insurance and cash management policies and procedures, accounting policies and plant operations.
  • Highly proficient in spreadsheet and/or statistical analysis packages. Proficient in Access, Visual Basic, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Visio.
  • Thorough understanding of compliance, internal audit, insurance and strategic planning.

  • Ability to work as part of the broader Risk Management team.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated experience in risk analysis, process modeling and system configuration.
Physical Requirements
  • Limited travel (about 10%) required primarily to our generating facilities.
