Senior Data Analyst

Summary

As an integral member of NYPA's Strategic Supply Management department, the Senior Data Analyst serves in a leading role to advance data analytics, continuous risk assessment and monitoring capabilities as part of the department's key digitalization strategies. The role will be tasked with expanding and bringing innovative approaches to Strategic Supply Management's current processes to embed analytical techniques throughout the procurement lifecycle and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of procurement activities.

Success in this role will require strong partnerships among members of the Strategic Supply Management department and business area management to influence the mindset for data analytics, identify data sources, interpret data, and build innovative solutions to gather data from various sources to generate insights, identify emerging risks, and improve business processes, KPI's and controls.

The Senior Data Analyst will work with all levels of management within the organization and key stakeholders within Information Technology in building and generating reports and visualizations.The role requires strong data analysis skills, outstanding organizational skills, exceptional interpersonal relationship skills, the ability to work independently, and to manage competing priorities effectively. The role may require participation in FOIL or other regulatory data requests. Knowledge of procurement processes and data analytics related certifications are a plus.#LI-JP1

Responsibilities

Support the department's data analytics strategy with a focus on continuous monitoring, drive to digitalization, and providing increased value to management by executing in the following areas:

  • Design, develop and implement innovative data analytics solutions.
  • Build reports and visualizations to effectively communicate data driven insights to stakeholders (e.g., visualization solutions of data into reports, graphics, dashboards to illustrate facts, trends, and insights.
  • Design and produce standard and ad hoc reports and dashboards as needed.
  • Drive use of data analytics within department.
  • Work effectively with colleagues to help expand the analytics mindset and technical skills.
  • Design and build tools to extract required data where necessary.
  • Documents and maintains data analytics procedures and processes.
  • Perform analytics to support special projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in data extraction, preparation, data analysis, data visualization, programming, database administration, and reporting.
  • Experience using data to identify errors, trends and provide insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects and work with multiple cross functional teams.
  • Excellent collaboration and team skills with a focus on cross-team collaboration.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization's management to deliver on business objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills.
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required; Preferred discipline - Management of Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines.
  • Advanced Degree or certification in relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in data preparation, analysis and visualization.
  • Proficiency with tools like Power BI or Tableau, Databases, MS Excel, SharePoint, and other office tools, etc.
  • Experience with private/public sector data and processes preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 5% travel within NY State
