Position description

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking two full-time clinical hematopathologists to join the Clinical Hematopathology service. This position is at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, which emphasizes strong commitment to clinical service and teaching. Clinical/translational research or other creative scholarly activities would be expected for applicants in the Clinical X series. Applicants must hold either an M.D. or equivalent degree with eligibility for California medical licensure and board certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology. Subspecialty board certification or eligibility in Hematopathology is also required, with clinical hematopathology fellowship training at the time of appointment. Candidate's CV or cover letter must state required qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.

The successful candidate will be a member of a team responsible for the daily operations of the Hematopathology service at the various UCSF campuses. The Hematopathology section works closely with clinical colleagues in the adult and pediatric hematology/oncology service at UCSF and performs over 3000 bone marrow and lymph node biopsy interpretations annually. Candidates will also participate in the Hematology service that provides medical interpretation of blood smears, hematology testing and coagulation evaluations. Competence in interpretation of flow cytometry for diagnosis of hematopoietic disorders is required. Clinical, teaching, conference, call and administrative responsibilities will be shared with other members of the division. The successful candidates must have good communication skills and demonstrated experience working in a team environment.

Candidates will also be required to play a significant role in teaching fellows, pathology residents and medical students. Development of translational and collaborative research projects in leukemia, lymphoma or hematology as well as quality improvement projects is a long-term goal of these positions. Salary and title will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and training.

This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf) which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
