DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, incumbent will support a research lab that studies axon regeneration and spinal cord repair. Incumbent will independently perform a variety of experimental procedures across several distinct areas of expertise, including mouse colony management, animal surgery assistance, post-operative care, behavioral analysis, tissue dissection and processing, histology and immunohistochemistry, microscopy, data quantification, molecular biology and cell culture assistance. The incumbent is responsible for lab management and maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, or Neuroscience, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of experimental and surgical procedures.

  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including PCR.

  • Skill in accurate record keeping. Ability to organize/analyze/calculate data and produce results in graphic or visual formats.

  • Proven ability to perform histological procedures such as perfusion, tissue sectioning, staining, and coverslipping, and solution preparation.

  • Proven ability in handling and preparation of solutions, chemicals, and drugs.

  • Ability to follow protocols precisely, and ability to troubleshoot protocols.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment, make minor repairs and modify existing equipment and devices.

  • Ability to operate general laboratory equipment including Balance, pH meter, and centrifuge.

  • Effective interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility with the ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with Principal Investigator, researchers, staff, and others. Ability to take initiative and participate in consultations and discussions regarding procedures, sharing knowledge, and willingness to learn from others.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population.

  • Strong computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and a variety of web-based programs. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain databases, perform standard computer tasks, learn new programs/applications with minimal direction, proficient experience with Macintosh and P.C. platforms.

  • Knowledge to read and use Material Safety Data Sheet's. Knowledge of basic lab equipment, maintenance, and safety requirements/procedures; EH&S regulations and methods for handling, clean-up, and waste disposal for biohazardous materials.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work with mice, including euthanizing mice and post-operative care.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as needed to accommodate experiments.
  • Must be willing to work with hazardous materials.
  • Must be willing to sac mice, including pups.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $58,548 - $94,190 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.04 - $45.11

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
