Position Summary

The Avionics Software Systems Engineer (Cyber) will serve as Systems Software Consultant for the Command and Data Handling of the Gateway Avionics- Systems

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Serve as Systems Software Consultant for the Command and Data Handling of the Gateway Avionics Systems
  • Provide detailed engineering analysis and technical consultation for development, design, testing and evaluation of the Gateway spacecraft Systems, Software, Hardware, and Cybersecurity
  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, and resolution of technical issues to NASA projects and programs relating to Avionic Systems
  • Responsible for Command and Data Handling Cybersecurity requirements definition and implementation for spacecraft
  • Manage and direct analysis tasks, tests, and research in Avionic Systems and related Cybersecurity.
  • Perform cybersecurity impact assessments
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Coordinate with external organizations to perform cybersecurity remediation
  • Successfully operate in a highly dynamic simulations engineering environment with a team of engineers working to rapidly develop spacecraft avionics systems
  • Strong customer focus, highly effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing engineering environment with demanding customers on a compressed schedule
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

REQUIRED:



  • BS degree from an accredited school in the field of Engineering or in a related area and a minimum of two (2) - five (5) years of experience in the field or in a related area. Advanced degrees may be counted as experience.
  • Eligible for US Govt Top Secret security clearance
  • Experience with either Avionic Electrical or Software Systems Design and Development
  • Thorough knowledge of Computer Networking Technology, such as IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) standards
  • Experience with cybersecurity impact assessment and remediation
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity controls and requirements such as NIST SP 800-53 'Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems' and NASA NPR2810.1A 'Security of Information Technology'
  • Experience with: Network Design, Network Management Tools, IT Security, Network Troubleshooting Techniques
  • Familiarity with commercial products available in computer networking technology
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude

REQUISITION PREFERENCES:



  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school
  • Hardware and Software integration experience with cybersecurity planning, auditing, and vulnerability scanning
  • Experience with avionics cybersecurity system maintenance (disabling services, effective countermeasures, intrusion detection, firewall configuration, etc.)
  • Experience with spacecraft avionics and circuit design or analysis
  • Experience in the application of computer network technology in space system including ARINC 664 Part 7 Aircraft Data Network and SAE AS 6802 Time Triggered Standard
