Scripps scientists work to understand and protect the planet by investigating our oceans, Earth, and atmosphere to find solutions to our greatest environmental challenges. Scripps leads research in climate change impacts and adaptation, resilience to hazards, conservation and biodiversity, oceans and human health, national security, and innovative technology to observe the planet. The Geophysical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the geophysical instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing of ship mounted 3.5 and 12 kHz echosounder systems, towed magnetometers, compressed air sound sources, multichannel hydrophone streamers, and digital acquisition systems. The position assists with the maintenance and operation of multibeam echosounder systems. The marine mammal mitigation program is under the direction of the Geophysical Engineer during research expeditions; reports of sightings, observations and results of data recorded at sea are overseen by the position. They also will assist with the preparation of environmental compliance documentation for state and federal agencies. Incumbent also interacts with scientists in planning, organizing and carrying out major research expeditions insuring quality of service and support in accomplishment of the scientific mission. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 - $72.56 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
