Reports to: Program Manager
FLSA: Full-time Salary Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Cloud Database Engineer designs, develops, solves problems, evaluates, modifies, deploys, and documents all data components (data architecture, logical and physical data models, database objects and database administration) that meet the needs of the system applications and customer / end user applications. Prepare and review technical documentation; lead and participate in design reviews, teleconferences, meetings, and discussions. Interact with vendors, contractors, and customers. Travel as required both stateside and overseas.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES


  • Design, develop, test, operate, and sustain security computing architectures, including cloud, data centers, and overall infrastructure optimization activities.
  • Research, design, develop, run tests, and evaluate systems that support cloud implementation and integrate with cloud service providers, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
  • Plan and conduct technical tasks associated with the implementation and maintenance of internal cloud enterprise-shared virtualization infrastructure.
  • Collect and document solution requirements, performance objectives, detailing metrics, and benchmarking measurements for independent evaluation.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and resolving infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
  • Educating teams on the implementation of new cloud technologies and initiatives.
  • Documents data requirements/data stories, in logical data models using data modeling tools to ensure flawless integration into existing data architectures.
  • Documents processing requirements inclusive of data and transaction volumes, scalability, security, and performance.
  • Supports the management of data assets according to enterprise standards, guidelines, and policies.
  • Modifying and improving existing systems
  • Collaborating with engineering and development teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
  • Review existing systems and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Travel may be required (Up to 20%) to both State side and Overseas locations.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • Extensive Amazon Web Services (AWS) FedRAMP-compliant GovCloud repository experience
  • Security+ Certification
  • Certification in one of the following found in the DoD Directive 8570.01: A+, Network+, CEH, or CISSP
  • Strong analytical skills with a validated ability to understand and document system data requirements in complete, accurate, extensible, and flexible logical data models using data modeling tools.
  • Demonstrated hands usage of Web Services / APIs and schema development/reuse
  • Expert in any programming language (Java, python, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience with design and development across one or more database management systems (e.g., Oracle, NoSQL)
  • Experience with Database query optimization and indexing.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting
  • Demonstrated success working individually or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to thrive in multi-disciplinary environment.


PREFERRED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE


  • Previous work history with any of the Training and Instrumentation systems under the PEO STRI umbrella or similar DoD training community
  • A Department of Defense Clearance is not required for this role, but would benefit future positions.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally and walk short distances.
  • Repetitive motion.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
