Position Titles: Instructor and Assistant Professor level positions in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University

Job Description: Director, Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research

Director is responsible for overseeing all of the Center's Programs (adult psychoanalysis, child and adolescent psychoanalysis, adult psychodynamic psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychodynamic psychotherapy, transference-focused psychotherapy, parent-infant program, psychoanalytic fellowship, Creedmoor program) as well as selecting the Executive Committee members who chair Committees and for running monthly EC meetings. The Director also is a liaison to the Department of Psychiatry and works with the Department to solidify and enhance the Center's reputation and position in the Department and Medical School. The Director may appoint, terminate and promote faculty within the Center using the department's Committee on Appointments and Promotions and serves as a Dean of Students for questions and problems that arise with students in various programs. In addition, the Director oversees the annual budget of the Center (currently around 550,000) as well as endowments, fundraising and new initiatives. The Director manages the Center's 1.5 FTE administrative staff as well as arranging Center events such as the Trainee Welcome Dinner and Graduation. The Director also works at their discretion, with committees in the Department of Psychiatry as well as within national organizations such as the American Psychoanalytic Association and American Psychiatric Association to further the prominence of Columbia nationwide.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

MD from accredited institution

New York State License

Board certification

For MDs: appointment at the instructor level requires graduation from a psychiatric residency program. Assistant Professor requires board certification in psychiatry and 2+ years independent clinical experience post residency.
