The RoleAspenTech is seeking a principal engineer position within our DataWorks Professional Services organization based in Houston, Texas.

As part of the DataWorks business unit you'll join us on our transformation journey to help our customers become part of the new era of autonomy as we move towards the Self Optimising Plant and drive operational excellence in the most challenging market conditions.

As an AspenTech DataWorks Senior Consultant Engineer you will provide consulting to clients implementing our DataWorks software with a specific focus on the Industrial Data Management software products. The successful individual will be responsible for undertaking consulting services for AspenTech clients in the oil & gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, food & bev and metals & mining industries, with opportunities to engage in projects in North America, Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.

You will be a key driving force in the delivery of the Industrial Data Hub to new and existing customers. You will become an expert in the configuration and use of our platform, onboarding new customers and ensuring that all their requirements are met. As well as working with internal product management, marketing, and sales teams, you will also regularly communicate with customers via email, web calls, and face-to-face meetings. Your Impact

As a Principal Consultant Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical leadership on Industrial Data Hub implementation projects. This includes:
    • Gathering customer requirements and translating those into high-level solution designs for the DataWorks products (AspenTech Inmation, Aspen Infoplus.21, Aspen Production Record Manager, aspenONE Process Explorer, etc.).
    • Defining and implementing data integration with external systems and people.
    • Utilizing DataWorks technology to enable broader solutions using the entire portfolio of AspenTech software.
  • Deliver technical documents such as Functional Specifications, Detailed Design Documents, as well as Site Acceptance Test Documents.
  • Be confident, capable, and have the ability to play a leading role on projects.
  • Demonstrate collaboration with the AspenTech Project Management team, involving technical to non-technical aspects of the project.
  • Formulating business processes to support the systems.
  • Working with clients to implement the systems.
  • Commissioning the completed systems which may require on site monitoring and analysis.
  • Participation in commercial proposal development and testing of software upgrades.
  • Conducting demonstrations, training, requirements analysis and system design workshops.

What You'll Need
  • Technical degree required (Software or Chemical Enineering degree preferred)
  • 4 - 8 years of experience implementing Manufacturing Execution system software in one or more of the process industries listed above.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Lua, .NET, VB, C++, SQL etc. Strong technical programming background is a plus.
  • Experience with implementation of real-time databases or historians, particularly Aspen InfoPlus.21.
  • Ability to travel (typical 25% travel on a calendar basis).
  • Multi project experience serving as a technical lead in systems implementations.
  • Experience with systems integration technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Fluent in English. Bi-lingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus.
  • An inquisitive nature and a need to understand why and how things are done, and not be afraid to ask questions.
  • Appreciate complexity and relish troubleshooting.
