Director - Database Engineering

GEICO is seeking a Director of Database Engineering to be part of our Tech Platform Service Engineering team. As Director in platform engineering, you will be responsible for the overall management and operations of the company's Relational Database platforms. This includes the design, implementation, and maintenance of all the relational database platforms.

In this position, you will lead several teams responsible for the architecture, integration, support, and governance of GEICO's RDBMS platforms and ensuring they are resilient, scalable, and secure.

The ideal candidate will have experience of building and managing relational databases built on open-source technology, such as postgres or MySQL, and be able to collaborate closely with Engineering organizations to modernize the way we manage, govern, and support our platform services. They will be familiar with open-source technology, infrastructure as code, and building solutions to meet the needs of their customers.

Responsibilities:

* Develop, communicate, and execute a team vision and mission

* Ensure solutions are aligned with modern industry trends and enterprise strategy

* Work with stakeholders to ensure that solutions are properly integrated to deliver a seamless experience to our internal customers

* Ensure that all databases are secure and compliant with all applicable regulations

* Coach, develop, and manage associates and leadership

* Establish Objectives and Key Results for your organization and manage associate performance

* Ensure the resilience, performance, and availability of our Tier 0/Tier 1 systems, which may require off-hours support during incidents

Required Qualifications:

* 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering-related fields

* 6+ years of experience with Database Technologies

* 6+ years of leadership experience with a track record of accomplishment

* Strong technical understanding of public/private cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure, GCP, or Private Cloud Tech)

* Strong technical understanding of Relational Database Platforms and services (Postgres, MySQL, SQLServer, or Oracle)

* Strong technical understanding of application, network, & cloud security services

* Strong understanding of Agile concepts and processes (SCRUM/Kanban/SAFe)

* Strong understanding and experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code concepts

* Ability to prioritize and drive results based on business value to the organization

* Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills

* Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both Senior Leadership and Highly Technical personnel

* Experience with strategic planning, establishing, and communicating roadmaps, budgeting, and allocation of resources

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $300,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
