Assistant Professor, Tenure Track: Geology

The Division of Environmental Studies and Geology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University invites applications for a tenure-track position in geology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024.

We are seeking candidates with disciplinary expertise in any area of geology or environmental geosciences. The successful candidate will be a teacher/scholar dedicated to effective teaching and able to develop a research program involving undergraduates. The required teaching duties include introductory-level geology courses and upper-division courses on topics that will interest a broad range of students. In particular, the candidate must be able to teach Structural Geology and Mineralogy & Petrology. Candidates with an interest in the intersection of society, sustainability, and geoscience are encouraged to apply. We require applicants to have a Ph.D. in geology, earth science, or related field prior to appointment. The successful candidate will teach 12 credits per semester. Additional teaching opportunities in the summer and winter breaks are available.

Founded in 1836 and nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in western New York State, Alfred University is a small comprehensive private university committed to teaching and research and devoted to pursuing technical expertise, artistic creativity, and humanistic learning. It is situated on a sprawling 232-acre learning community where about 1,700 undergraduate and 140 graduate students attend.
