The City is searching for an energetic, self-driven person to join the Development and Engineering Department. This position will have direct contact with City staff across all departments and divisions, as well as the general public and stakeholders. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of plan review duties-to include but not limited to-comprehensive analysis and examinations of building construction plans. The position will utilize extensive communication skills to provide excellent customer service support to the residents and stakeholders of the City of Peoria.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • Performed plan reviews by reviewing and approving residential and commercial plans as they conform to applicable codes, and advising applicants of needed change;
  • Conducted research on plan specifications, and checked calculations to ensure compliance with currently-adopted codes;
  • Interpreted and applied state and local codes and regulations;
  • Conducted meetings and advised engineers, architects, contractors, and the general public on plan design, code interpretations, and the resolution of design problems affecting life safety.

  • Education: High school plus additional course work (equivalent to up to 1 year at a community college or equivalent);
  • Experience: 2 years. Considerable previous experience required in a same or similar previous position;
  • Certifications & Other Requirements: A valid Arizona driver's license upon hire; Two (2) certifications from the International Code Council (ICC) Residential: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical preferred; ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification or equivalent certification from another source or agency within one (1) year of hire.
