About JMU:

Located in the heart of Virginia's beautiful Shenandoah Valley, the city of Harrisonburg is approximately 120 miles from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA. General Information:

This position is primarily responsible for creating video content for the university's digital properties in order to promote the university's key priorities. We are looking to fill this position with students who are proficient in video creation in a fast-paced environment. Motion graphics experience is also preferred, although not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Write, shoot and edit University Communications videos for JMU's social media channels
2. Components for these include but are not limited to: templated videos, interviews, b-roll, branded graphics, etc.
3. Work closely with the Assistant Director of Multimedia Strategy to produce and edit video content to meet the needs and objectives of University Communications
4. Assist on set with larger university-level video productions led by University Communications
5. Develop and optimize video packages for new platforms
6. Collaborate with other University Communications interns to assist with producing short-form video content for ephemeral channels
7. Serve as lead project manager on certain video projects, as delegated by their supervisor

Qualifications:

* We are looking for motivated JMU students with a passion for video editing and production to fill these positions, so long as they have a baseline proficiency with the technical aspects of digital video production. Applicants must be full-time James Madison University students for the entire 2024-2025 academic year.

* Applicants should have a foundational understanding of audio, video and lighting techniques and should have knowledge and expertise on how to develop story structure within a short video.
* Applicants must be experienced with Non-Linear Editing (NLE) software-proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (i.e. Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.) is preferred. Other software proficiencies (animation, motion graphics, etc.) are valued but not required.
* Applicants should show advanced initiative, self-discipline, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Applicants should be familiar with digital video workflow, including experience working with mirrorless, DSLR or cinema cameras.

* A demo reel, or links to examples of the applicant's work, is REQUIRED as part of this application.

Conditions of Employment:

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
