General Information:

The School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) advances JMU's vision to be the national model for the engaged university by responding to individual, business, and community needs through transformative educational programs and experiences. The Director of Youth Programs serves as the primary point of contact for SPCE's K-12 youth programming. Work closely with K-12 school systems, JMU academic departments, and parents, to develop and implement all K-12 youth programming, recruit instructors and counselors, develop and track program-level budgets, and administer and collect assessment data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Develop and implement comprehensive K-12 youth programs aligned with SPCE and JMU missions.
-Design curriculum, activities, and initiatives that engage K-12 students in meaningful educational experiences.
-Oversee all aspects of program operations, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
-Handle all financial aspects of K-12 programs, including the development and monitoring of individual program budgets, comprehensive budget, purchasing, and credit card reconciliation.
-Cultivate partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and educational stakeholders.
-Serve as a liaison between the university and external partners to promote collaboration and support.
-Organize outreach events, workshops, and informational sessions to engage the community in youth program initiatives.
-Recruit, hire, and train staff members responsible for delivering youth programs and services.
-Provide leadership, guidance, and support to program staff to ensure effective program implementation.
-Conduct performance evaluations and professional development activities for program staff.
-In collaboration with SPCE's Director of Marketing and Recruitment, develop marketing and recruitment strategies to attract K-12 students to university youth programs.
-Coordinate outreach efforts to diverse student populations and underserved communities.
-Implement retention initiatives to foster ongoing participation and engagement among program participants.
-Stay abreast of current trends, best practices, and research in K-12 education and youth development.
-Build relationships with other university youth professionals to share resources and collaborate on shared initiatives.

Qualifications:

-Knowledge of event and program planning/management.
-Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
-Experience with budget management.
-Demonstrated ability to assess programs using appropriate evaluation tools.
-Experience supervising, training, and evaluating full-time and part-time staff.
-Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
