Department Overview 20% SURVEY PARTICIPATION: Coordinate timely participation and/or participate in multiple industry salary surveys including higher education, healthcare and general industry: Recommend new or alternative survey sources based on survey utilization, market relevance, resources and need. Prepare procurement requests for vendor contract, data security review, and payment 30% BENCHMARKING, ANALYSIS, and Reporting: Provide market data and assist with cost analysis for annual policy-covered job grade and salary structure increases. Provide guidance for available survey benchmarks and data for existing and proposed policy covered jobs. Assist university locations and systemwide labor relations with identifying survey data for union-represented jobs and provide market information related to successor or accretion bargaining. 40% COMPENSATION SYSTEM MAINTENANCE: Maintain compensation planning system (MarketPay) survey data, employee and job details, systems issues, etc. Manage user access and provide instruction for new employees. Prepare and load employee, job, and survey data, and policy covered salary structures. Annually migrate and update market data for approximately 20,000 jobs systemwide (includes 10 campuses, 5 medical centers, ANR, UCOP) including adding, updating, or revising survey matches, and applying geographic pay differentials and defined weighting methodologies as appropriate. Review economic data and identify annual survey wage movement to apply aging factor to market data and model policy covered midpoint increases. Coordinate with Systemwide Compensation Staff to discuss annual market survey timelines, migrationsand matching. Keep MarketPay Process Documentation up to date. 10% Other Projects: Prepare data, market studies, and reports for external parties including California State University, State of California, consultants. Provide direction and design and implement strategic compensation programs that provide competitive market positioning. Experience Over 10 years Experience working with market data and five years experience utilizing compensation planning software (MarketPay preferred) for survey benchmarking, report writing, and analysis. Skills and Abilities Expert knowledge of the compensation function, practices and programs as well as organizational goals, objectives and initiatives and how compensation-specific programs and initiatives may impact other areas of human resources. Extensive knowledge using market data to assist with the development and implementation of compensation programs. Expert analytical and communication skills to develop and present findings and recommendations that are complex. Skilled utilization of compensation planning software for survey benchmarking, report writing and analysis. Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative and consultative manner with diverse client groups, other areas of human resources, and members of the organization's management. Expert interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with diverse client groups, others in human resources and members of the organization's management. Demonstrated expert ability to prioritize and organize work assignments to meet timelines. Subject matter expert to business unit managers and for other areas of human resources and outside agencies. Able to lead, influence and project manage as well as provide direction and guidance to other staff members. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills needed to interface with management on compensation-related matters significant to the organization. Education Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training Licenses and Certifications Certified Compensation Professional credential preferred.
