Job Title: Underwriter

Job Description: We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Underwriter to join our team. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and evaluating risk factors associated with insurance applications to determine their eligibility for coverage. Your keen attention to detail and ability to interpret complex data will be crucial in making informed decisions that align with our company's risk management strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate insurance applications to determine risk factors and eligibility for coverage.
  • Analyze financial documents, credit reports, and other relevant information to assess the applicant's financial status and risk profile.
  • Utilize underwriting guidelines, policies, and regulations to make informed decisions regarding approvals, denials, or modifications of applications.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as sales, claims, and legal to gather additional information and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate decisions to producer, applicants, agents, or brokers in a clear and professional manner, providing explanations and guidance as needed.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to adjust underwriting practices and strategies accordingly.
  • Participate in training programs and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in underwriting techniques and practices.
  • Requirements:

    • 5 years of experience but more valuable if 3 years in independent agency
    • Must have an active P&C license
    • Skilled in marketing and able to communicate with carriers
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and make sound decisions.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in using underwriting software and computer applications.
    • Knowledge of insurance principles, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
