Department Overview The incumbent will share intellectual ownership and responsibility of projects with RSG team members, coordinating cross-unit support, performing (or commissioning) complex analyses, and presenting findings to R&I, UCOP or campus leaders. Work to analyze, understand and clearly explain highly complex research issues (including funding, policies, and administration), producing a wide variety of reports, briefs, and charts for these purposes. Serve as an experienced analyst in several topic areas (e.g., state or federal research funding, UC research budgets, research grants and publications data, accountability research metrics), using knowledge of the area to develop, advocate for, and implement new solutions or approaches to meet organizational objectives. The incumbent serves as a proactive, reliable, and trustworthy team member, initiative coordinator, and team builder who forges collaborative relationships within R&I, with other UCOP units, and with key constituents at UC campuses, UC-affiliated national laboratories, and outside institutions and agencies. Informed by knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues as well as a historical perspective, the incumbent will consider sensitivities and likely impacts arising from multiple perspectives within R&I, UCOP, the UC system, and external partners and stakeholders. The incumbent uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures to research, analyze and develop solutions to a wide range of issues; must demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation. 40% Provides analyses for complex budget, financial, academic, data, systems and resource projects working directly with all levels of managers. 30% Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; research organizational structures, policies and procedures and summarizes best practices in field. Provides technical guidance and quality assessment. 10% Performs ad hoc, analytical studies on a wide variety of policies, programs and issues which are complex in nature. 10% Coordinates implementation with cross-organizational departments or external entities as needed. 5% Proposes, leads and / or participates on policy and planning committees and working groups. Provides strategy development for organizational or research initiative. 5% Demonstrate a desire to grow, intellectually and professionally. Attends classes, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge and professional networks.
