Department Overview

The Electric Engineering team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Engineering is responsible for PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

This is the entry-level position for engineering technical work. Work performed at this level will be assigned as required to prepare the employee for advancement to Engineering Technician II.

Work schedule:9/80 Schedule. Monday-Friday 6:00a-3:30p. Every other Friday off.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the timeofthe job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to anindividualwill be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses orcertifications,experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internalequity.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $42.00 to $54.88,subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Under direction or supervision of an employee in a higher classification, performs laboratory and field assignments including dielectric testing, maintenance and repairs, calibration, and investigation on a wide variety of material and equipment.
  • Testing in a high-voltage laboratory, dielectric testing of bucket trucks, ground grid testing, continuity testing.
  • Catalogs and maintains instruments.
  • Inspects and tests Lineman protective equipment (this will include, but not be limited to blankets, gloves, hoods, jumpers and hoses).
  • Lifting, hauling, moving, and standing on feet all day long.
  • Work with a small staff in a confined environment daily.
  • Operating test equipment at 40,000 volts.
  • Operate a forklift and manual pallet jack.
  • Requires use and wear of protective equipment.
  • May need to make field visits onoccasions.
  • Meet measured and monitored deadlines that play a large role in enabling PG&E to meet monthly compliance requirements and targets.
  • Maintain customer-focus by being organized and detailed while working in a team setting.
  • Work performed is subject to quality and quantity audits by Supervision and the Shop Lead.
  • Some overtime based on workload/business needs.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate degree in electrical field OR its equivalent in education (certificate in electrical field) and experience in electrical-related (components, tools, equipment, etc.) testing

Desired:

  • Forklift Operator and/or experience previous operating a forklift
