Investigators in the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADRC) and the UC Davis Department of Public Health Sciences collaborate to conduct epidemiological studies on subjects in the Kaiser Northern California Health System. This position will provide clinical research oversight and management expertise for the staff working on the KHANDLE, Life After 90 and STAR studies under the direction of the study PIs and ADRC Center Administrator. This position will oversee the development of study protocols and ensure IRB compliance with clinical research study protocols involving human subjects. This position will oversee operational aspects of the studies in conjunction with their project teams and in accordance with standard operating procedures and good clinical practices and regulations. They will be responsible for managing the facilitation and oversight of the clinical evaluations, study start up, recruitment, contracts, and data tracking and reporting. Two days per week of in office work at the Sacramento ADRC may be required. They will also work with the department finance personnel to assign resources and select vendors for the studies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Clinical trial professional certification from a professional society or ability to attain certification within one year of employment.
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in related field or equivalent experience working in a healthcare research environment.
  • Experience managing and training people in the field of research.
  • Experience setting performance standards.
  • Experience in budget development for research proposals, contract/grant development, rules and regulations for extramural funding, accounting principles and financial analysis.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing and hiring employees.
  • Experience organizing and coordinating administrative and research activities for multiple ongoing and planned projects.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Able to manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects, and meet the demands of a dynamic research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a self-motivated and team-oriented leader, work independently with minimal supervision, organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines for a variety of assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and edit questionnaires, create and use survey mailing schedules, create data files, supervise data entry, analyze data, and report findings.
  • Ability to effectively interpret and communicate UCD and UCDMC Policy and Procedures, and other guidelines to faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to anticipate problems, problem solve using good judgment and common sense, gather input and evaluate the available options prior to making decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with researchers and staff from various disciplines and organizations in conducting research and administrative duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and lead teams, mentor, problem solve, and motivate others to achieve common goals.
  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills, with experience in writing reports.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology in the UC Davis School of Medicine fosters teaching conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache and sleep disorders.
