Overview

Provides assistance to the Lead Cook in the preparation and serving of food to students/persons served that meets approved quality, nutrition, health, and safety regulations and requirements.



Responsibilities

    Under the guidance of Manager/Food Services and following specific menu and preparation instructions, provides assistance in the preparation of daily meals for students/persons served in the Bancroft School; e.g., prepares salads and sandwiches; stirs soups; prepares starches; washes, peels, and slices fruits and vegetables; seasons, grinds, and carves meats, etc., in a safe and sanitary manner.
  1. Prepares food for serving, arranges serving trays, and replenishes serving lines as necessary, to ensure the availability of prepared foods throughout the course of the meal.
  2. Reviews production schedule to determine food requirements including variety and quantity of food for preparation and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily cooking activities.
  3. Properly operates, cleans, and sanitizes kitchen work area, countertops, equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all times.
  4. Properly stores food, leftovers, etc., in accordance with approved food storage and refrigeration requirements.
  5. Participates in the preparation and serving of foods for special catered events sponsored by Bancroft; e.g., Board meetings, special conferences, committee meetings, etc.; as required.
  6. Projects a positive self-image of technical professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, and personal integrity at all times.
  7. Performs other food service and food preparation activities, as required. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by organizational and departmental needs.
  8. Abides by the Bancroft Code of Ethics, Mission Statement, and Vision Statement in promoting ethical behavior, establishing relationships and providing guidance in decision-making situations.
  9. Remains current with required training certifications, meets state-regulated licensing and regulatory accreditations, and adheres to mandatory requirements.
  10. Maintains effective verbal and written communications with colleagues, those served, and their family members and/or guardians when applicable.
  11. Willingly and effectively cooperates with Bancroft NeuroHealth, The Department of Human Services, The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request.
  12. Maintains a safe and respectful environment, free of abuse, neglect, or exploitation; does not allow weapons, threats, bullying or intimidation.
  13. Reports any violations to the appropriate individual as soon as the incident occurs.
