The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Hematology and Oncology seeks a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our comprehensive Outpatient Oncology Program. The NP will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients with a diagnosis of cancer, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, under a medical collaborative agreement. Together with the Nurse, the NP will provide excellent, evidence based patient care.

Responsibilities



  • Develop, implement, and track patient education efforts as it relates to chemotherapy, blood replacement products, growth factors as well as psychosocial concerns of patients, family and caretakers related to diagnosis of Cancer and the underlying disease.
  • Collaborate with the Infusion Center nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients receiving chemotherapy/blood products, growth factors, and supportive care.
  • Complete patient's history and physical exams, review laboratory results and order appropriate tests, provide discharge instructions and patient education, and monitor follow-up appointments.
  • Obtain consent, and monitor pre and post procedure status of patients.
  • Develop care plans for patients; and document history, orders, notes and ongoing evaluation of patients.
  • Assure quality of care and standards are maintained; participate in daily rounds; and serve as liaison to referring physicians and external transfers.
  • Assist physicians with related duties as directed.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience
  • Current New York State NP and RN licenses, as well as board certification
  • Ability to adapt to flexible schedule and fast pace work environment
  • Excellent communication skills


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in hematology and oncology
  • Experience with Columbia University and NYP systems and procedures


Other Requirements



  • Participation in the medical surveillance program

    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Wear N-95 respirator
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
    • Physical demands


  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
