The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) MA program at Columbia University is one of the oldest interdisciplinary applied statistics MA programs of its kind. We count hundreds of data scientists, senior analysts, and academic researchers among our alumni.

Reporting to the QMSS Director, the Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for all financial and administrative support elements for the QMSS program. The incumbent will assist with processing all financial elements of the program, supporting the hiring process of student officers, coordinating operational elements of event planning, assisting with the recruitment and admissions process, as well as with answering questions for incoming and current students.

Responsibilities

Academic & Student Affairs

Assists with the student recruitment and the admissions process for QMSS, including coordinating the reading of applications, processing decisions in the online system, and working with the admissions office on scheduling and communication. Maintains all student records, including schedules, credits, graduation intentions, financial aid, course-taking, and other student data. Serves as a resource for students navigating University systems: checks in with students having difficulties, monitors student progress, coordinates degree audits, clears students to graduate, processes leave of absence, withdrawals from the program, and change of grades, and keeps students updated with upcoming deadlines. Sends out weekly newsletters to students and alumni.

Handles academic course arrangements, including scheduling courses, submitting courses for approval to GSAS, reserving classrooms for all courses, ensuring courses are posted on the directory of classes, assists faculty with CourseWorks setup, grade submission, class rosters, and compiles evaluation reports and distributes to faculty and staff.

Serves as a liaison and advocate for students regarding other University offices (e.g., ISSO, Bursar, and Registrar).

Acts as the first point of contact for QMSS in general, responding to student and program inquiries.

Operations

The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the hiring and onboarding of students as Teaching Assistants and Departmental Research Assistants including coordinating the recruitment process for the QMSS DRA Match program and tracking the program's budget.

Responsible for handling program purchases, reconciling expenses monthly, and processing reimbursements.

Works closely with ISERP's administrative unit on academic and student appointments -- financial, operational, and logistical transactions.

Works closely with work-study students to complete program tasks.

Event Planning

The incumbent is responsible for all the operational elements of event planning, including scheduling of rooms, ordering food, and coordinating students -- for events like orientation, town halls, social events, career panels, and workshops. Required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications



  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 0-2 years of related experience are required.

  • The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Resourcefulness, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion are required.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's degree desirable but not required.
  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Experience in student advising.
